This decentralized stormwater treatment is state of the art because it reduces the costs for urban drainage by using source control. The linear filter channel has numerous advantages in comparison with other systems. The treatment takes place directly below the surface, it is easy to inspect and maintain.
There is only low head loss. Filter media is kept in bags, there is no loose material in the channel. Filter media has to be replaced after at least 10 years. Highest loading capacities allow to install the system in nearly any situation.
The filter media removes pollutants like PAH ́s, hydrocarbons and heavy metals. Furthermore it binds phosphorous and ammonium from stormwater runoff. The two step treatment train separates solids and dissolved substances.
The system is ideal for car parks, roads, industrial areas and airports. Highest pollutant levels in storm- water runoff can be reduced to acceptable loads for groundwater and surface waters. The modular design allows the adaption to nearly any site condition.
Water enters the system via the sedimentation box. This trap removes and retains very effectively the coarse debris and sediments. Water passes down to the filter bag with a specific mixed media. Dissolved substances are then removed and retained by adsorption and precipitation. Below the filter bags the water is collected and transported towards the outlet. The bags have to be replaced at least after 10 years of operation.
1 Water enters the system from both sides of the channel 2 Then sedimentation box removes coarse solids such as gravel, leaves etc. A rubber seal prevents any possible by-passing of the bypass directly to the filter bag.
3 The pre-treated water flows through a granulate filter media. Dissolved pollutants are removed by adsorption and precipitation.
4 The cleaned water passes to the bottom section of the channel and can be discharged to groundwater or surface waters or a further back up treatment train stage, such as a swale or rain garden.
